What are you most proud of throughout your career?
I’m most proud of my willingness to accept challenging opportunities as they’ve presented themselves in my career. Many times, I’ve stepped outside of my comfort zone to take on a new role, I’ve always pushed forward, investing a lot of hard work to be successful in each instance. Embracing opportunities, especially the challenging ones, has opened many doors for me and has been an important part of my career development.
In honor of Women’s History Month, who is a woman that inspires you?
I’m inspired by so many women - it would be hard to name just one. Growing up, I had incredible support from my mother and sisters, who constantly encouraged me, challenged me and taught me that I could do anything I set my mind to. Today, I’m so inspired by the women leaders at Extended Stay America. In my role, I have a great opportunity to meet General Managers, Team Leads, District Managers, Regionals and women in all areas of the organization that inspire me. They each find ways to be successful at work, take care of their families and really give back to the community.
What advice would you give to a woman starting her career?
The one piece of advice I would give is to say “yes” when asked to take on a project, additional responsibility or even something you aren’t 100% sure you are ready for. When I started in the industry, I didn’t know anything about hotel operations. However, my General Manager at the time saw potential, and asked if I’d be interested in managing the Housekeeping Department. I didn’t have any experience in this role, but I thankfully did have the courage to accept the opportunity presented. Saying “yes” allows you to expand and grow.
How do you feel Extended Stay America champions or supports you as a woman?
Extended Stay America has an amazing culture that supports everyone to be the best version of themselves. Through the Women’s Associate Resources Group, paid maternity and paternity leave and a culture of creating a better place for us and our families, Extended Stay America really supports everyone in the organization to be successful. At Extended Stay America, over 50% of our associates are women, including over 50% of our General Managers. This type of diversity, throughout the organization, really shows how Extended Stay America champions women.
