Prepare for Extended Winter Travel

Get ahead of your to-do list and make sure you’re ready in advance for your winter travel.

  1. Always be weather ready. Check the weather before you pack for your travel so you know what kind of attire to bring. If you will be going to or traveling through a cold climate, make sure you bring a coat or blanket with you at all times in case you get stranded or your car breaks down unexpectedly. If heading somewhere warm, make sure you don’t pack only sweaters and overly warm attire that would be uncomfortable for long amounts of time.
  2. Pack snacks. Avoid getting hungry while on a long drive and come prepared. Save money on fast food and shave time off your trip by bringing prepackaged snacks from home and avoiding an extra stop.
  3. Bring an emergency kit. Every car should have an emergency kit, but it’s even more important to have one when going on a long road trip. Make sure you have access to everything you may need in an emergency while away from home. For example, bandages, pain reliever, reflective triangles, seat belt cutter, jumper cables, etc.
  4. Make sure your car is travel ready. If you’re taking a road trip, make sure your car is ready to travel in the climates you will be in. Before you travel, get an oil change and fill your gas tank. Ensuring you have the right tires, adequate tread and pressure for the climate you will be in is also a must. Don’t forget to check that all your car lights are working, too.
  5. Wear comfy clothes. If you’re going to be on the road for awhile, you might as well be comfy. You can always change into nicer clothes once you arrive at your destination.

Make sure you use these travel tips before you hit the road for an extended amount of time this winter!
