What positions have you held at Extended Stay America and what has that timeline been?

I started my employment at Extended Stay America as a Guest Services Representative on 12/10/2019 and was subsequently promoted to Team Lead on 3/21/20. I have been serving as the General Manager at Extended Stay America – Washington, D.C. - Sterling since 3/12/2022.

What are you most proud of throughout your career?

I came to the United States from Pakistan as a single mother seeking asylum. I initially struggled to find marketing jobs and had to work as a cashier and waitress to support myself. However, when I got a job at Extended Stay America, my career prospects improved. Working at Extended Stay allowed me to meet people from diverse backgrounds and receive support and guidance from my leaders and colleagues. I had many proud moments there, such as when the property I managed was ranked as the top location in the company. Despite challenges, I have built a successful career in the hospitality industry through perseverance and seizing opportunities. I am grateful for the support I have received and look forward to further growth at Extended Stay America. I am proud to work for such an amazing organization.

In honor of Women’s History Month, who is a woman that inspires you?

In celebration of Women's History Month, I find inspiration in the commitment and effort of Extended Stay America Regional Director of Operations Mariam Naseer, who serves as a shining example for women starting their careers with Extended Stay America and striving for success in their professional endeavors. She embodies success for women in their professional pursuits. I appreciate her guidance and respect her leadership attributes such as strength, resilience and determination.

What advice would you give to a woman starting her career?

Remember to always stay proactive, show enthusiasm and have a willingness to learn. Make sure to prioritize people and exemplify the values of hospitality. Set goals for yourself and have confidence in your ability to achieve them with determination and persistence, gradually working towards building a successful career.

How do you feel Extended Stay America champions or supports you as a woman?

I have had a great experience working at Extended Stay America, as they provide equal opportunities for success. The organization promotes inclusivity and support, training sessions and access to necessary resources. Thanks to Extended Stay America's commitment to equality, I have been able to excel in my career and reach new heights. I am thankful for the conducive environment for growth and development that Extended Stay America provides.
