Expert Tips for Traveling with Pets

When bringing your furry friend on your next extended stay trip, consider these helpful tips!

  1. Pack the essentials. Don’t forget to bring the things your pet needs on a daily basis. This includes food, treats, supplements, waste bags and a leash.
  2. Have medication handy. If your pet needs medicine from time to time, you should bring it on your trips in case they need it. You should also bring any anxiety relief medication or motion sickness medicine prescribed to the pet, just in case they feel uneasy while away from home.
  3. Bring a source of comfort for your pet. Help your pet feel comfortable and acclimate when away from home. Whether that’s a stuffed toy they sleep with every night, a bed or a blanket, bring them the items they need to self-soothe.
  4. Don’t forget to pack something to entertain your pet. Bring a few bones, balls or toys for your animal to play with. Try to maintain their normal activities while away from home so they have a sense of routine.
  5. Stick to a routine. Pets are creatures of habit and thrive off routine. Even though you’re away from home, pets do best when they are kept on routine as much as possible. Making big routine changes while traveling with your pet could stress them out and cause them extra anxiety.
  6. Make sure your hotel is pet friendly. Before booking a hotel, make sure you know the hotel’s pet policy with your species, breed and size of pet. Look into the pet fees, restrictions and charges associated with bringing your pet. All of our Extended Stay America hotels are pet friendly, because we know your pet is part of your family.
